Call Of The Wild! Man hätte die Wucht, die der Opener von TYLER LEADS' neuestem Wurf STAY UGLY schon in den ersten Sekunden versprüht, wohl kaum besser in Worte fassen können! Der Rhythmus ist tight, das Soundfundament swingt und zwingt jeden Rockpuristen mit Leichtigkeit in die Knie. Und der ist zweifelsohne der Adressat dieser sechs Songs umfassenden EP, die der Fünfer aus Recklinghausen unter der Obhut von BERAY HABIP in den LE FINK- und TOOLHOUSE-STUDIOS eingespielt hat. Und zwar live! Ergo spiegelt der Silberling die exzessive und naturbelassene Bühnenperformance der Band gekonnt wieder: Alles ist in Schwingung, atmet, lebt und bewegt sich in der ausgelassenen Leichtfüßigkeit, die man wohl nur bei einer so jungen und hungrigen Combo wie TYLER LEADS findet. Die ungestüme Lebenslust und optimistische Grundpartystimmung geht deshalb aber keineswegs unkontrolliert über die Bühne, sondern findet durch die ineinander greifende Gitarrenarbeit den idealen Rahmen und wird durch das clevere, auf catchy Mitgröhlparts ausgerichtete Songwriting auch zielsicher auf den Punkt gebracht. STAY UGLY atmet zweifelsohne den Spirit der 80er Jahre. Und was wären Rock-Bands dieser Dekade schon ohne die ausdrucksstarken Stimmen ihrer Frontmänner gewesen? JOHNNY KOVACS verfügt über eine solche und versteht es, die mit abstrakter Fiktion gefütterten Texte der Scheibe überzeugend und ehrlich darzubieten, was im Zusammenspiel mit dem authentischen Rockbrett seiner Jungs direkt und unvermittelt Spaß macht. Und Spaß ist hier sowieso die oberste Devise! STAY UGLY drückt das Gaspedal durch und hält sich gar nicht erst lange mit langweiligem Pathos oder Balladen auf, sondern gibt dem Hörer in 28 Minuten lieber satt auf die Zwölf. Ungeschminkte Hässlichkeit und kein Bullshit. Hässlich sein kann so schön sein!
Call Of The Wild! TYLER LEADS' couldn't have picked a better title for the opener of their brandnew output STAY UGLY that is screaming through the speakers with an urgin' impact! The rhythm's tight, while the sound foundation just knows how to swing and bring each and every die-hard rocker down to his knees. And such dudes are clearly the target audience for these six tracks. The five members of TYLER LEADS did their homework and know that heavy rock tunes are best captured live. And that's what they did! What they've created together with producer BERAY HABIP at LE FINK- and TOOLHOUSE-STUDIOS represents their live power just perfectly. Everything is in motion, breathing and spinning around in such frisky easiness that can probably only be found when a band is still fresh and hungry, just like these guys from Recklinghausen/Germany are. Beneath this lust-for-live-and-party-all-night-long attitude, there's still room for focused songwriting that knows how to place a catchy sing-along hook right between engagin' walls of heavy, yet melodic, guitars. STAY UGLY is clearly hailing the 80s! And there's barely a band from that era that lacks a frontman with an expressive voice of his own. At least if we're talking about the genre of ROCK... Needless to say, TYLER LEADS got someone special up front who delivers the goods. JOHNNY KOVACS knows how to bring his fiction-fueled lyrics to life in the most honest and convincing way. Combine that with the authentic musicianship of his bandmates and you know what time it is. STAY UGLY puts the pedal to the metal in its entire 28 minutes and gives a crap about ballads and pathos. Unadorned ugliness and no bullshit is what you get! Who would have thought that being ugly could be so pretty?
