Review by Rotation 11:
Cosmic Fall from Germany has impressed the shit out of us with their debut release First Fall. The combination of smooth flowing instrumental psyche rock and trippy blues makes this one a must have. If you love the psychedelic exploration of bands like Earthless, the bluesy jamming side of Clutch and the raw feel of Samsara, we have no doubt you’ll gravitate to this album.
What are the highlights of the album?
The album kicks off with the epic “Son of a Gun”. Coming in at whopping 15:21 minutes, this one will flow effortlessly through your speakers, its one hell of trippy stoner jam. We love the opening to “Road to Ufa,” it seems to pay homage to the great Stevie Wonder song “Superstition”. The third cut, “I Must Obey” introduces some vocals which mixes thing up a bit. Sit back and let your mind drift away with 16 minute plus “Jam I”. This track has it all; raw psychedelic jamming, spacious exploration and dirty blues riffs. It’s impossible to describe this one in words, just crank it to 11.
How is the production value?
The production is psychedelic and raw and not over polished. Each instrument is very well played.
What adult beverage to enjoy while listening to this album?
Grab yourself some Brooklyn Lager Sorachi Ace. This 7.2 ABV lager is built around the unique flavors of the Japanese Sorachi Ace hop. Its zesty lemongrass aroma brings forth terrific flavors that will compliment this album.
Does the album art reflect the music?
Absolutely, this cover art of a cosmic looking landscape is very appropriate and fits the music well.
What are our final thoughts on First Fall?
With so much heavy psyche instrumental bands out there, it must be difficult to stand out. We love these types of artists who bring something fresh to their genres. Cosmic Fall are tremendous musicians as they bring something new to the table. Fans of psychedelic instrumental music will love this album. We already look forward to the Second Fall. - 12/1/2016
