The album has been in the making for years now, the first studio appointment at Hicktown was planned for early 2019, back then with Michael “Mikey” Bensch at the drums. Due to illness, a new appointment was planned for April 2020, this time the date was canceled due to Corona. In November 2020 the recording could finally take place.
As far as songwriting is concerned, the Monkeys don't have a set process, but most of the time Florian “Flo” Rößle arrives with a great riff or apreggio, which is the basis of the song. During rehearsals everyone brings in their ideas, where should it get more brutal, where should be breaks etc. Istvan Ladanyi then writes the lyrics to it, and the song gets better with every rehearsal ...
The texts are a call to wake up, to break out, an end to foul compromises and an end to clinging to false values and self-deception. We're all alive but dead. Wake up asshole now! Smash these keepsakes as they kill you! It's entirely up to us (Worte)! Damn, there's no fucking compromise!
The Enraged Monkeys are a live band! The songs are not Prog-Metal pieces that you can hear quietly in a lonesome little room, they often get by with one or two themes, which are then staged accordingly. The full energy of the songs unfolds in the rehearsal room and on stage; in order to capture this power, the decision was made to record the album live without any click or safety-net. Here and there guitars or lyrics were overdubbed, but basically the goal was to record the album dirty, raw and powerful. In order to give the piece an extra portion of punch, it was pulled through a Studer A80 mastering tape machine before mastering.
At the end there is a long-matured album that really hits your buttocks!
