Das Fremde als Inspiration, die Vermischung als Prinzip – so die erklärte Bandphilosophie von MirMix Orkeztan. Ganz in diesem Sinne gestaltet sich auch das Debütalbum „Global Grooves“.
Beginnend mit den stampfenden Beats von „Kuydum Chok“, einem neuinterpretierten kirgisischen Klassiker, entführt uns das Album auf eine Reise über Landes- und Stilgrenzen. Ein alter serbischer Schlager „Belgrad at Night“, üppig verziert mit virtuos ausschweifenden Bläsern, wird unverhofft zum treibenden Instrumentaltechno. Ein opulentes georgisches Liebesepos „Turpaw“ verzaubert mit sphärischen Volksgesängen und mündet in einer haltlosen Bläser-Ekstase. Funky wird es beim Stück „Ella, Elise et Lise“ und nachdenklich beim Instrumental „Interlude“, unbeschwert poppig bei „Two Chords“, doch eins wird es nie – eintönig und vorhersehbar.
Ein Album für alle, die es gerne vielseitig mögen und sich nicht von Stilkonventionen einschränken lassen, denn letztere haben bei dieser Platte keine Chance. So bunt und interkulturell wie die Band selbst, so freizügig und farbenfroh wie das Berliner Nachtleben.

This roughly describes MirMix Orchestan's band philosophy, now materialized on their debut album Global Grooves. Actually, this is what MirMix stands for, with the word „mir“ meaning „world“ in Russian, which is the mother tongue of Paul Linke, the band's charismatic founder and leader. Eight musicians from six different countries, they met in Berlin, got playing and mixed it all together.
Out came a strong tasty cocktail of styles, sounds and grooves. A heavily stomping Kirghiz traditional spiced with a tricky jazzy saxophone... An ancient Georgian love song bursting into a wild ecstasy of virtuosic horns... A Serbian evergreen suddenly turning into an instrumental techno... An instrumental interlude full of jazzy contemplation... A huge deal of different influences, merged together in a tasty and meaningful manner.
It's so much fun to listen, and it's so much fun to see them perform! For them, stylistic bounds do not exist. They don't care, they just mix it.
