The history of this band is pretty much the musical history of Marco, the singer and creative mastermind behind the Wörmwood Scrubs. He’s had several (to differing degrees) successful music projects throughout his life. Based on this he knew how to do many of the important things: recording, talking to people who could give you a gig, what to expect from your first two years as a band, etc. Also, as a wonderful coincidence, he knows how to do artwork and design for covers.
Back to the history: Marco’s had the idea to do punk covers of some of his favourite songs from the 70s and 80s for a while when he met Markus through his then-girlfriend. Marco had heard from her that Markus plays guitar, and this old project came to mind. They started recording in Marco’s basement (the first finished (...) Mehr anzeigensong was “Music was saved” by Starsailor – to this day Markus is not sure who they actually are). Soon they realised there was something big there, the famous lightning in a bottle. Well, tiny lightning, but still. There was creative energy to be exploited. So they also recorded old songs Marco had written. “Punkadilly Circus” and “Brighton Wild One” came together, as well as “Part Time Punks”. And of course, they wrote their first text together, the “Pub-Song”; one of their favourites to this day. The result of this was the EP “Knackered Punk Mod Part 1”, published around one year after they had started. It was a blast, a fucking good time!
Just two months later, through his savvy (and pure dumb luck), Marco landed them their first gig with the legendary "Peter and the Test Tube Babies" in the legendary “Alte Hackerei”. It was all very legendary (and a lot of cheek for a first gig, fuckin’ hell!). But now they needed an actual band. So Marco asked his old friends Bob and Chris for base and drums, and Markus recruited his best friend Rinus – who, to this day, swears he hates Punk Rock! What a prick. Whatever, Band practice commenced, and in just 6 weeks they put together something that could very generously be called a 40 minute set. They sold exactly no CD’s that night, but they gave away a few, just because. Markus actually hurt his nose in the moshpit when he watched Peter. Great stuff.
And from there, all of this just repeated itself. Everybody started giving creative input – the lightning became a tiny bit bigger – and Marco continued to know who to write to and who to ask things. They continued to record songs and to have gigs and be cheeky bastards. The next EP was “Knackered Punk Mod Part 2”, bigger, better, with more songs and with an actual recorded drum. And again, we played with "Peter and the Test Tube Babies" in Frankfurts Batschkapp. Hell Yeah! Weniger anzeigen
