Part dreamy indie rock ballad, part epic alt-rock saga, Circles is the latest single by German-American indie rock band Everdeen. Introspective fingerpicked electric guitar and breathy female vocals are augmented by layers of guitar feedback and distant drums that give the song a sense of vastness and timelessness and underscore the brooding lyrics straight out of a fever dream: “You see that time has passed/Another rainfall/All the colours bleed away/Running down your face”. Driving bass and drums churn and seethe as droning, crunchy guitars enter as the song explodes into a post-rock inspired ecstasy in the lilting chorus and final guitar solo. Produced by Ralv Milberg, the track has a raw yet warm quality to it, with a sound that reminiscent of either a smoky underground club or a rocky desert on an alien planet. For fans of Warpaint, Mogwai, and Daughter.
