Comprised of warm bass, sparkling guitars and airy, effortless vocals, Robin Eads’ EP Trippin’ creates an accomplished soundtrack of ease. In three Dionysian odes to love, intoxication and art; Robin’s voice floats from introspective to exuberant over the foundation of her beats until words become superfluous: “when I mumble it’s my art / if you understand or not / my heart, my tongue”. When Robin’s neo-soul-vocal-clouds caress the casual hip-hop-beats, even our senses are queued in to perceiving what her work is about. Whether with introductory vocal chops in the title track “Trippin’”, choir-interjections in the pop-gospel “Next” (which derives its inspiration from Nina Simone), or with meditative grooving “Mumble Art” - Robin retains her coolness throughout.
