Bio/Info

The origins of Nihilum date back to 2011, when keyboardist and composer Sam and vocalist Vaiztanz discovered a shared musical vision centred around dark, deeply emotional music. After Vaiztanz relocated shortly afterwards, Sam continued the project with guitarist Morpheus Requiem and drummer Alex “Drummaschine” Kreisle, forming the first incarnation of the band.
Those early years were as raw as the music itself. Rehearsals took place in a run-down shed with notoriously unreliable electrics - to the point where rubber mats became part of the rehearsal equipment. Musically, Nihilum were initially rooted in the depressive and atmospheric fringes of Black Metal, with an emphasis on introspection, melancholy and emotional intensity.
Several setbacks eventually brought the project to a halt. Aft (...) Mehr anzeigener earlier line-up changes, the death of guitarist Morpheus Requiem in 2019 marked a particularly profound loss and Nihilum remained dormant for several years.
In 2023, the project was finally brought back to life. With Vaiztanz once again on vocals and a new full band forming around the project, Nihilum began to move decisively beyond the narrow boundaries of their early sound. Sam shifted his main role to keyboards, which became an increasingly central part of the band's further identity.
The result was no longer defined by a single extreme-metal subgenre. Nihilum had developed into a Dark Metal band in their own right - combining melancholy and aggression with prominent keyboards, symphonic elements, theatrical darkness, emotionally direct German-language lyrics and an unusually strong focus on memorable melodies and choruses.
The EP "Asche & Staub", released on 8 May 2025, marked the first official release of this new chapter. It was followed by the two singles "Alle sind wir… nichts" and "Wahrnehmungsstörung", both offering an early glimpse of the band's next step. That evolution now culminates in Nihilum‘s debut album "Ecce Homo": their most expansive work yet, bringing together the different sides of the band's history while establishing the sound they consider unmistakably their own.
